OK, there are obvious reasons for converting a DVD or DivX to (S)VCD, but why do we put ourselves to trouble capturing video from a VHS tape and making (S)VCDs if we can watch it from the tape?

How can you vote for just one?? (I did, but there are so many good reasons......)
I actually started because I thought some of my old home videos were deteriorating. It turned out that one of the kids had pulled out the tape and crunched it up...but it's sort of the same thing anyway. And making backups of your VCD/SVCD/DVD masterpieces is so much easier, quicker, less-lossy, easier to store.....pity I hadn't done that for the tape they wrecked! (Besides I had to justify all the money I spent on the video card!) -
(1) easy for playing
(2) easy for storage
(3) easy for my kids to play it
(4) easy for money($0.25 per CDR disc)
(5) easy for backup (do not need 2 VCRs)
(6) easy for ...
(7) easy for ... ...
...

Care to share with me what the "obvious reasons for converting a DVD to (S)VCD" are? I personally can't justify spending hours and hours converting just to make an inferior copy of a DVD that occupies two or more discs. Doesn't make sense.

Kris....mate......You mean to tell us you really dont know the obvious reason for making a copy of a dvd.......
You really must pay more attention in class... -
Oh yeah.....Nearly forgot.
The first four all sound like a good reason to me. -
Just being silly here and bumping thread up.

+ with the right filters and settings you can make a svcd look better then the vhs
You can get rid of all the noise and static resulting in a very clear and sharp picture .
None of the options of the poll applied to me so that 's the reason why I didn't vote.. can't speak for the rest or the people here thoughLegendary Super Newbie!

I am very happy with the results i get and would say that they are significantly better quality then VHS. So if you have lots of time on your hands and find this hole thing a source of personal pleasure and satifcation, why not..?

It's a cheap and easy way to trade or share your stuff with anyone in the world and it doesn't take 2 hours to make a copy.
