tmpgenc itself will convert mpeg 1/2 to dv avi, but it is not straightforward.

1. de-multiplex the file

2. convert the audio separately: file -> output to file -> wav file

3. convert the video: file -> output to file -> avi file

4. check only the box for video

5. click on the thin line to the far right to choose your video codec

6. depending on the codec, but especially for dv avi, you will have to limit the conversion to about 9 min 30 sec (2 gig limit)

7. Go into setting -> advanced -> adjust the source range accordingly and repeat for the remaining segments of the video (overlap the out with the in points)

8. import all the new files into your nle (premiere )
