I converted the avi file with avidemux, but when I tried to convert to mpeg-2 with QuEnc the file was with about 700 overflows, I also tried the freenc, but was converted only the beginning (about 10 sec of avi file).

    could someone tell me why?

maybe another way to convert mkv to avi?

    thx.

I,ve had very good luck with Format Factory (free). But make sure you stick very close to original MKV settings. I use Dvix, 720x480 for video size, 2400 for bit rate, same frame rate as original (usually 23.976)(very important), same aspect ratio as original. Audio you can pretty much set what ever you want.

With VirtualDub I go from .mkv to .avi(XviDHD), but you need the DirectShowInputDriver in the VDub-plugins folder

I've never tried Format Factory, so I can't comment on it, but I've had decent results with XMedia Recode (also free).

I wanted to find a solution to convert using the VirtualDub or avidemux but I tried different things and I did not succeed ;/

convertxtodvd can do this conversion, but can only convert to dvd format.

I do it like this: in VDub: open file, select the .mkv, then audio, full processing mode, then again audio: compression (AC3 ACM codec and
Fraunhofer MP3 Codec Pro have to be installed on your system), mostly I choose AC3 ACM 224 kBit/s 4800 Hz Stereo 28 kB/s.
Then in the Video tab : compression, XviD MPEG 4 Codec. Then File, Save as AVI. This way you get a XvidHD.avi withe the same
resolution as the .mkv. I had to do this because suddenly my WD TV won't play .mkv anymore on my Samsung HDTV via HDMI.
