    CB,

I love your product. I have used it in quite a few projects. The only problem with it is the audio side. It creates the Mpeg fine, and it plays with great picture and sound quality. The problem comes when I go to edit the Mpeg in TMPEnc's Mpeg editor and their old TMPEnc Plus they tell me that there is not an audio source in that file. I even tried Main Concept's Mpeg Editor, and it gives the same error. To get around this problem, I have to convert the mpeg to the DivX format and then reconvert it back to mpeg in order to edit the mpeg. This adds about 2-3 hours to the project.

Am I missing a codec? I have the XviD, DivX, Quicktime, Mpeg1/2, and the AC3 codecs installed. I appreciate your help and information in regards to this problem. Like I said, I love your product.

    Thanks

  2. First, this is obviously an issue with your editor as I am sure you know that the audio is present.

Second, I would highly recommend using VideoRedo for editing MPG/VOB files, it does a much better job and will not tend to skew the audio as some inferior editors will do. Well worth the investment and has a free trial. I'm sure there are others as well.

As far as I remember Vob2Mpeg doesn't do anything with the audio stream - just copy it to the output.

However you can drop the Vob2Mpeg step altogether! Some editors (Sony Vagas, Womble Mpeg Video Wizard for example) will allow you to edit directly from the Vob.

The advantages are obvious, plus you get more control over the output streams

Thanks for the information IKnowNothing. I have Sony Vegas, but have not tried it yet. I think I will give it a try.

Yes, I can see how the thought that the editor would be the problem. The TMPEnc programs are designed to be a "swiss army knife" for the Mpeg format. If I am in error in thinking this, well I need to be educated. Main Concept's Mpeg Encoder is a bullet-proof encoder. The Mpeg created by VOB2Mpeg is the only one it has a problem with. That is why I asked if I am missing the proper codec to handle it.

Thanks for the knowledge so far, it is greatly appreciated. This is why I like forums, we all learn from eachother.

It depends on what the audio actually is. Post your Vob2mpg log and we will know. But, for example, a high percentage of dvds use AC3 which PC by default will not have a codec for. In such cases installing AC3Filter will solve your issue.

    CB,

Thanks for your reply. I do have the AC3 Filter installed. I had to install it because the dIVx codec required it to read the mpeg files created by VOB2MPEG. I have attached the latest log file. Could it be that the codec needs to be enabled in the software? If that is the case, I would feel really less than smart.

    Thanks again,

    Mark
