Hey I'm back with yet another question.
I have been logging and capturing footage
from my Canon XH-A1 with no problem.

The other day I needed to log and capture
from a miniDV Panasonic 3CCD chip camera
and I could not control the camera, or even see
anything. I tried to click capture now and nothing.

I think I changed all the video settings back to
DV, but it's not recognizing it?

And you were sure the Panasonic was set on PLAY/VTR mode?

could be a Firewire I/O bug.
    Sometimes it happens.
When it does, use FCP Rescue,
to restore FCP Prefs, and try again.
