  1. I have a Panasonic GS-PV500 Mini DV camcorder going USB to PC using Windows movie Make and I notice it will not include the date and time stamp. I need this info on the tape.

    Any solutions?
    Thanks

You should be using Firewire not USB if you're going from MiniDV to PC. Quality of transfer using USB is not as good as with Firewire, as USB is generally used for transferring stills from the camera, not video. Firewire is intended for the video transfer.

WinDV is highly regarded for transferring DV between camera and PC. It preserves the date/time stamp contained on the tape. This free program has a light footprint too, coming in at a whopping 98 kilobytes. Most apps are much larger. WinDV is an app that is dedicated to a single task (video transfer), and it does it very well.

  3. Thanks,

If WinDV will allow as you say it will be a great time saver in my work flow.
I suspected I needed to go firewire and ordered the cables earlier today.
    Thanks

Yes. Firewire is must for quality transfer.

You might want to try DV_Datecode or DVdate. I haven't used the former, but the latter I have, and it works fine.
