  1. What is the best way to create a 30-35 min S-VCD (with TMPGEnc), based on 2 x <18 min AVI movie?
    Is it possible to merge these AVI files in TMPGnc?

    I using Studio 7, and since there is a 4 GB limitation, I have to split 35 min movies into 2 x <18 min AVI, and I don't want to use the Stud 7 MPEG2 Codec (I understand that TMPGEnc is a good choice for that).

    yes it can be done , convert each file required into its mpeg format according to the cd you wish to create ( vcd or svcd ) when both are converted, in TPMGenc from the FILE menu click on mpeg tools, there will be a tab MERGE&CUT, click on this, add the files into the main box by clicking add, check you have the right format selected in the top drop down box, browse for the output file name and destination, make sure both files are highlighted by crtl clicking both and click run
    Voila :P

    IMO, I wouldn't merge them. I'd just encode both individually.
    This way, you can FF/RW quicker in each of them. And, skip to next
    clip, then FF in it too.
    But if you merge them together, chances are, you may end up with
    * audio issues
    * take too long to FF/RW to scenes

    Note:
    * you're planning on doing an SVCD or variable, then be sure to do a
    small 2 to 5 mb size encode and then burn to CD. Why, we want you to test to see if you CAN ff/rw.
    if you can, then no problem. But,
    if you can't, then you may still be able to ff/rw by creating a "SCANDATA.DAT." file, by typing in
    exactly, but w/out the "---" and
    NO returns. Then save file as
    "SCANDATA.DAT." only (no othername)
    Then put in your EXT folder in Nero.
