With the new Diehard movie I was thinking about how much I like the original. So much so it fits in my top ten list for best all time action movies. Anyhow it got me wondering what everyone thinks is the best movie of all time ever. So what I'm suggesting is we get a collection of titles and vote on them For the first round we can split the movies off into different categories and take a poll, if the category exceeds 10 we'll split it up into two polls. For the second round we'll put each winner of a category against the other winners.

Here's the current list, I'll edit the new ones in and as they come in:

Interesting... This is going to be a difficult undertaking.

Here's a few that come to mind:

    Action:
    Kill Bill

    War:
    The Great Escape
    Apocalypse Now
    (should Rambo be action?)

    Comedy:
    Snatch
    Stripes
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
    Life of Brian

    Drama:
    Pulp Fiction
    The Shawshank Redemption
    True Romance

    Sci Fi:
    Star Trek

Tough call on Pulp Fiction - Would you say that it is more similar to Godfather or Shawshank?

Oh, guess "Reservoir Dogs" should be on the list also (crime or drama?)

One of my all time favorites is The Princess Bride, but I'm not sure where it fits in your catagories. Perhaps add a Fantasy Catagory? (Please don't lump Fantasy and SciFi together.)
    Also "Bridge To Tarabithia"

SciFi: I would add 2001:A Space Oddyssy
"Shut up Wesley!" -- Captain Jean-Luc Picard

I don't know , your suggestion so it's your call. You could argue about many of these films categories. We could just make a "Crazy ass shit" category and put the likes of Pulp fiction and Apocalypse Now in them.

Need some more suggestions, keep them coming.

    Added a category for animation/claymation.

Be funny to see Frosty the Snowman pitted against the Terminator. You never know, Frosty might win.

What we could do is ditch the categories all together for the poling, just randomly select titles for each poll. Might actually work out better.

What about Sequels? Guess we should probably include them too.

I would, because sometimes the sequel is just as good, or better then the original.

Yes, well that's one of the resons I only listed Terminator 2, that IMO is the best one but I guess others could differ. For the moment I'll only list one to keep the list shorter but I'll add the sequels for polling..

I would say add sequels as separate movies - IMO, Terminator 2 was the best, 1 was good and 3 blew chunks. So many others are the same (Indiana: 1, 3 good, 2 blew).

On the Reservoir Dogs: Needs to be same place as Pulp Fiction...

Cheers on the Blazing Saddles (one of my fav's) - But need to add "Young Frankenstein"

    Fantasy:
    Mirror Mask
    Labyrinth
    The Dark Crystal
    Harry Potter

    Sci Fi:
    Serenity

    Edit:
Question: With the addition of Frosty and Rudolph in the Animated catagory does that mean this is open to "made for TV" or "direct to DVD" as well?

And at the risk of repeating myself. (Although I didn't catagorize it.)
Bridge to Tarabithia, which is actually more of a drama, but anyone who's seen only the previews would think it's a fantasy, so let's go with that.

Sure why not, doubtful there's many worth listing but I'll add anything anyone suggests. I think Frosty can take The terminator. :P

Sorry missed that, I put it under fantasy is that where it should be? I'm not familiar with that movie.

It's actually a drama, but it's aimed at a younger audience than some of the others listed and the people that made the marketing decisions created previews from moments of the movie that misrepresented the actual story making it appear as if it were a fantasy. Because of this, many people who probably would have enjoyed it didn't bother to see it in the theaters. I believe the DVD release is imminent and I recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it.

how about Vertigo (1958) , Basic Instinct (1992) for drama.
    Casablanca (1942), for drama/war
    The Exorcist (1973) for horror
The Magnificent Seven (1960) for action (I don't like western that much, but this movie was fun to watch.)
The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) for war/action/drama
    Kelly's Heroes (1970) for war/action/comedy
Modern Times (1936), Sunset Blvd. (1950), Paper Moon (1973) for drama/comedy

P.S. I noticed that no one suggested the Lord of the Rings trilogy for fantasy??
P.P.S. you forgot the "chick flicks i.e. Romance" cat. like Love Story (1970), It's a Wonderful Life (1946) etc....

If we've go a Western Category you've got to have some of the John Wayn Classics:

    Rooster Cogburn
    True Grit
(I'm sure others have som fav's but I'm not quite that old... He's also got some classic war flicks but I doubt they'll stand a chance with anyone under 50...)

    War:
    Patton

    Horror:
The Changeling (one of my fav's)

    Comedy: Wedding Crashers.

    War: U571.

I don't know if you would put these under action/adventure, or if you would want to create a Superhero section: Batman Begins, X-Men.
