What is the better format to save photos in? There are so many formats (jpeg, bmp, tiff, etc.) that it's very confusing. Largest print size will be 8x10 but most will be 4x6. The main thing is not losing quality.
Also, I do wood carving and need a program that will convert a photo into a good quality sketch, drawing or whatever that I can use for patterns. For want of a better explanation, something similar to what a high quality coloring book would be. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you're scanning photos there is very good thread here: https://forum.videohelp.com/topic359571.html
If it's a camera just copy the files from the camera to your hard drive, they will most likely be in .jpg format .
AS far as making patterns most image editors come with tools for making stuff like that, usually they'll have a "find edges" feature. Convert it ti an object and make it one color. -
Thanks! I've tried the "find edges" option on a few programs but they don't quit do what I want. It may be the only thing available and I'll just have to be satisfied with it.
