I was just at newegg.com and I couldn't find any 5.25 enclosures for firewire.

Would a USB 2.0 5.25 enclosure be adequate for a Bluray drive?

The reason I'm asking is I do have two SATA connections on my motherboard. However my boot harddrive takes up one slot and the 500gb harddrive I just bought is a sata and takes up the second connection.

I do have a free pci slot where I could get a sata power card. Would that be a bad thing if you already have a sata port on your pc? I do have a spare sata power plug so that is not an issue. I just don't have a sata connection available on the motherboard.

So would I be better off getting a sata card so I can do the bluray drive internally? Or would it be ok to use a usb 2.0 5.25 enclosure for the drive?

If there is an adapter to add on to the existing hardwired plugs on the motherboard I'd be interested in a link. Thanks.

Finding a 5.25" firewire or USB 2.0 enclosure - the trick is finding one who's internal interface is SATA - most are IDE only. Addonics has one that is both.

I have two PCI SATA controllers with external connectors for eSATA or SATA on one of my computers, along with the on-board SATA, and they all get along fine with each other. A external SATA enclosure will have it's own power supply, so you don't need that from the computer. Of course your Blu-Ray drive would have to have a SATA interface.

    Here's a few external SATA enclosures: http://www.cwol.com/serial-ata/sata-drive-enclosures.htm

Thanks everyone I'll keep these in mind. And thanks redwudz I'm glad to hear a pci card will work happily with onboard ports.

EDIT - I bought a pny two port/internal and external sata pci card today. You can do two internal or two external. I didn't check when I installed but I hope its set to internal by default. Anywho know I'm set. As soon as I buy my bluray drive next week I'll be able to simply plug and play

    Thanks everyone
