Hi,
Well I'm finally signing up for digital cable and a high def dvr. (haven't got it just yet though - this week).
My tivo subscription (a one year deal) will run out at the end of year. I plan to let it lapse and just start using the high def dvr. Only downside is the cable dvr is slightly lower in capacity - 15 hour high def recording and 60 hour standard (scratch that its either or so high def takes up more space and less analog recording, but it has a dual tuner which will be nice)
My questions are:
How easy is it to hack a TIVO SERIES 2 model?
What capacity can it be upgraded to?
What functionality can be had WITHOUT an active service plan?
Can the official TIVO-TO-GO wifi adapter be used on a hacked model for wifi streaming files off it?
Would it be better to simply put the TIVO in storage in case I decide to end the high def cable and use it later instead of buying another TIVO hardware unit?
Thanks in advance.

I was just trying to do a little ribbing on posting a questionable hacking question...
Everyone has stayed clear so I guess I succeeded. lol -
I'm curious about some of this. Does the tivo work without paying for the service? Is it just a useless box without it?

That's what I'm wondering.
Can it be set up to be used a ye olde vcr? If it could be hacked with a large harddrive and use only as a programmable recorder I could live with that.
Though I may also just box it up.
