    Hi all,

Just joined, but have gleaned some good hints/advice for a little while now.

Just got a DVD off a torrent ( ). It contains 5 .avi files (one of which is the menu), a .idx file and a .sub file.

Question: How do I get this back to a DVD playable in a commercial DVD player/TV?

    What I've tried:
    - Using Toast Titanium 8.0 to make a DVD-Video and Video CD resulted in a non-playable DVD.

Any ideas out there Gurus? Surely people have come across this.

When doing someting like that, it can be a good idea to tell
Toast to output to a disk image. Saves coasters.

The media I use has been successful on all other occasions, so I don't think that's it. Last night I managed to get one done as a SVCD and another as a VCD, but using Toast Titanium 6 instead of my usual version 8. Yeah, it's a compromise but it works.

My next problem was a US region DVD. I got it as a .avi and only VLC would play it. So with ffmpeg I converted it to a .mov, which Quicktime played fine. I then used iDVD to make a DVD of it. Preview in iDVD looks fine as well. Burn the thing and watch it on my standalone DVD player on TV and the whole picture is cropped. Not greatly but it is missing all the outside edges. Any ideas?? Maybe 16:9 instead of 4:3? Maybe leave it as NTSC because I changed it to PAL (not that I needed to as DVD player plays both)?

first, what was the codec needed for the .avi to play?
with Perian 1.0 installed, there hasn't been any .avi
I couldn't play in Quicktime withoutthe need of
    converting to .mov first.

with Perian installed, you could've just drag/dropped this into
Toast 8, and got a compliant DVD that would have been 24fps,
and your DVD player would have handled it.

Sending it to iDVD is probably what hosed it for sure.
Possibly your 3:2 pulldown flag wasn't set, possibly your
settings in iDVD fo rit to convert it to NTSC....
