Latley i havent really been able to make DVDs properly. I will start with an AVI, convert that to DVD format (in this case i used ConvertXtoDVD), then burn it with either Nero or DVD Decrypter.

Anyway, when i play it on the stand-alone DVD player the last 15 to 20 minutes dont play properly. It stops and skips and starts (making it pretty much unwatchable).

The strange thing is, if i use my computer to watch it (CyberLink PowerDVD) it will play correctly, with no worries.

I am using DVD+R, writing on the min. speed and never overburning (in fact when i convert the AVI to DVD i make sure it is a couple hundred MB smaller than the DVD, eg: 4.1GB)

I think the problem also occured when i used DIKO to convert AVI to DVD.
    Anyone have any ideas.

When you watch it with your computer, do you mean the burned DVD disc or the ConvertX VIDEO_TS folder before it's burned? The reason I ask is that sounds like a DVD media problem. Though usually reducing the size as you have done helps with many media problems.

What brand of DVD media are you using? Tried different brands or DVD - media?

ConvertX usually works well, so I would suspect your media, stand-alone player, burner and burning program, in that order. Have you tried the disc on different players? Also I would try ImgBurn. It's a updated version of Decrypter without the decryption part. Nero usually does well enough, but ImgBurn does better, IMO.

There are more remote possibilities, such as your burner overheating during the burn. Burning at the lowest speed doesn't always make a better burn if the media and burner are designed for higher speeds. For 16X media, 12X should be slow enough, if you think that's a problem. Or the burner may have other problems.

Yeh, when i watch it on the computer i use the burnt DVD disc, not the VIDEO_TS folder. Which makes me think of ruling out the media/DVD disc.
Also, i have tried it on other stand-alone dvd players and the same result.

Im not sure if im just making this up, or if i actually heard it, does Cyberlink PowerDVD have somthing in it like an anti-skip feature, meaning it might be the dvd disc, its just the computer is able to get past that?

Some software players like VLC can ignore small errors, missing or corrupted frames and you may not notice them. PowerDVD may do the same.

If you haven't tried different DVD media, I would still recommend that. It's the least expensive change. If you can find Verbatim where you are at, it's usually good quality.

You can also check your present media by looking up the manufacturers code and media comments in 'DVD Media' to the left.

I just took a look at the DVD MEDIA section of the DVD disc i am using; MAG MEDIA
Overall the ratings are pretty poor, one guy mentioned:
"Writer was happy to write to media, however the same writer could not read the burnt disk.(lite on) nor could the pioneer / sony / samsung dvd players."
This is making me think that it could very well be the disc, i bought them in like a 20 or 50 pack, meaing i havent tried another disc in ages.
The strange thing is when copying a movie, it will work ok . . .

I think the same as redwudz. It is you disk. I experienced similar problem before, where the disk would skip on DVD player jet when played on computer using PowerDVD player it was fine. I just re burned the disk and it was OK. Mind you I use Toyo Yuden disks.

i agree that bad media is a likely suspect. i purchased a batch that would play on my jvc but on my toshiba would begin to skip until the disc froze, usually after 35 minutes. certain computer drives would give the same result. picture is great, just that the disc would skip at the same point. my suggestion would be purchase a small quantity and burn a test disc, then make sure it plays well on all of your playback devices before purchasing large quantities AND before you record valuable information (movies).
