  1. Hi, I'm trying to come up with an easy way for my Wife and kids to be able to play back a collection of home moviews without having to go to the DVD case and search for DVDs etc.

Is there a program to use where it will be easy to add the DVD photo and title and all they have to do is clikc play?

I usually rip the entire DVD either as ISO or VOB files, but when using windows meadi player, you have to point to the video-ts folder to be able to play the files and you have to mount the ISO image to be able to play it that way. This is fine for me but for kids, it is a bit rought.

I have windows xp2 and not MCE.

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks

VLC media player supports dvd iso. So maybe make a short cut to vlc with a command line to the iso file and also play in full screen, see http://www.videolan.org/doc/vlc-user-guide/en/ch04.html

Exactly. I'd need three of those right now.

  6. Well for me 2 years later the 400 capacity is under 1/2 filled. I just haven't seen that many DVDs that can stand up to watching more than once. For single use play I use a Philips Divx player. Cheap and if it breaks I'll just go get another.

I may be the exception. if I watch a Tv series episode I don't even watch the reruns. All my timers for tv series are set to "New Only" on my DVR. The few things I get in HD worth keeping I shift over to an external hard Drive where I can watch them through the DVR from the external drive. I do have over 1.2Tb of HD movies and specials stored on the EHDs.

I should say that I have plenty of DVDs on the shelf just in case someone wants to watch them. The jacket blurbs did their job and enticed me to buy them. Darn shame the contents didn't live up to the jackets promise.

The last 3 movies I rented all pissed me off. Waste of $3 for this very reason.

I agree. Was briefly subscriber of an on line DVD rental service. Opted out, as there simply wasn't 4 watchable releases a month.

But there are tons of classics. This weekend I watched 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, with Kirk Douglas, which was released in the early 1960's. Also, the Time Machine from this era is classic.

Snapstream Beyond Media with the DVD Library plugin, love it. DVD's are all packed away and safe. The movies end up looking much better after conversion and are normally under 700meg.

Sure is! Unfortunately, this particular company seems to focus on later releases, and their Classics shelf is long time ago exhausted.
