Could someone recommend a burning software other than Nero? I rarely burn music, movies, or pics onto a cd/dvd so I'm looking for a software that is lite.

Nero and windows xp have been conflicting so I removed it and do not wish to use the program again.

    Thanks.

Note that it does not create music cds, but for everything else it's great.

At the moment, my vote goes to IMGBurn.

You can burn any file that can be placed into a folder.

I know that it works on data and DVDs

I'm not defending Nero, but it rarely conflicts with XP. Maybe with another installed burning program on occasion. The last I can recall was Roxio, but that was some years ago and older versions of both products. You may have other problems.

But if you don't need or use the other features of the Nero suite and need just a burning program, you can't go wrong with ImgBurn.

Well, Nerovision express was conflicting with explorer and giving me popup error messages.

MP3 and AVI is data. Every computer file is data. Just use build mode in ImgBurn. Or do you want to convert your MP3 files into an AudioCD, and your AVIs into VideoDVD? If so, no, ImgBurn doesn't do that. It burns.

I use Imgburn for everything except audio CDs (only because it can't do Redbook).

free fast and works everytime for me

  13. Have you checked out Deep Burner? It's got a great interface for data CDs (and DVDs). Very similar to the interface I liked when Roxio wasn't bloatware.

HELLO. I THINK THE BEST PROGRAM IS NERO BUT IF YOU HAD TO REMOVE IT THEN I WILL AGREE WITH ALL OTHERS FOR IMGBURN. ANOTHER GOOD SOLUTION WILL BE MAGIC BURNING STUDIO, CYBERLINK, ROXIO, ASHAMPOO,etc.

So, besides Nero and Roxio are there any other programs that allow you to burn video files? My dvd player can play divx just fine so there's no need for me to convert them to iso first.

So, still looking for any other suggestions. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions so far.

Again: ImgBurn can burn AVI (and any other file) to both CD and DVD. Almost all burner softs in existence has been mentioned, so what are you waiting for?

Many years ago, I was using Roxio and NTI and never had any issue with both of them. I then tried Nero 4.xx and since never change to anything else. I'm now using Nero 8.xx and have used version 5, 6 and 7. I burn videos, music, data and couldn't remember how many I have burnt. If I have to guess, I would say I've burnt about 5,000 pieces both CDs and DVDs. Ninety percent of them were for clients. Only one customer sent back a defective one. I have replaced 3 units of my CD/DVD writers because the laser died. I have used Win 95, Win 98, Win ME, 2000 and XP and none of these ever had any issue with the burning software. When people ask me what burning software should I recommend, I never hesitate recommending NERO.

I tried opening 3 or 4 divx avis and it gave me an error message "invalid or unsupported image file format". So, I'd love to get going here but it's not letting me burn avis. When I search for files, avis are not under supported formats.

In ImgBurn, go to 'Mode>Build' for DVD data or VIDEO_TS DVD files or CD data files. You are likely in 'Mode>Write', which is for ISO/Image files. 'Write' will give you that error message if you don't have a ISO to burn.
