Do you mean all of the control panel, or just the audio section? Vista handles audio differently than XP and I doubt XP audio drivers will work with it. Have you tried downloading the latest audio drivers from Asus? I don't know why the control panel wouldn't open.

You might try starting up in Safe Mode and see if you can get to the control panel. Check the Device Manager for checkmarks. You may be able to roll back the drivers to the motherboard version. But usually installing the proper MB drivers should fix it all.

Hi, I've decided to reinstalled the Realtek ac97 codec and vista control panel is back showing all icons. ok thisis to explain further, with ac97 codec vistal control panel is struggle to open and showing all icons hence it stop (or failing to open everytime). When I first installed vista, the onboard sound driver is built within vista - but by plugging the loudspeaker to GREEN (LINEOUT) of soundcard, it plays ok for awhile but then suddenly there was no sound - in the past I thought it was the installation process that was not right, so reinstall vista again, but same result. Then I it must be the codec for the onboard sound, but same result - then after lots of investigation I found the sound output has reverted to MIC output (RED)??!! Upto now still can't figure it out. Thus I don't need realtek ac97 codec, so uninstalled but then I can't view/open control panel - this is my problem still. HTH
