    i have 2 dvd burners.
    TDK420N and HP dvd640.
    Both have the firmware updated. Both stop burning dvds for no reason, but burn cds just fine. It act like it dont see the blank dvds, and i tried different blank dvds. It can still read dvds just fine. I even reformated and reinstall xp and it didnt do any good.

    Both drives won't recognize blank media? Try disconnecting one of the drives and see if the other one then works.
