I am trying to convert an avi that has a resolution of 640x480 to DVD. Whenever I convert it to DVD and play the DVD on my DVD player it is zoomed in to far. When I convert the avi to DVD I would like to just keep the 640x480 resolution but there is no option for that. I have tried Nero Vision and ConvertXtoDVD, is there any software that will allow me to do that?

IF your standalone player does support playing back
640x480 DVD-Video, you can use DVD-lab PRO to author
a non-standard disk --- but first you'll need to transform
your 640x480 .avi into a 640x480 .mpg with TMPGEnc or
    something better.

Your problem is called overscan. All TVs have this to some degree, PCs do not. 640 x 480 is a 1:1 PAR image that will be converted to 720 x 480 with non-square pixels. All this is normal. Your problem is that the edges of the image are hidden in the overscan area. FWIW, every TV show you watch and every DVD you play has image hidden like this. TV shows are shot with this in mind, so nothing important is ever put there.

Taking a wild guess, your video has subtitles hard coded into it, probably fan-subbed anime. These have been put there by someone with no understanding of video, and who only watch the files on a PC.

Your solution is to resize the video to be smaller, add borders around it and re-encode so that the borders are in the overscan area, and the image is visible to you. It sounds complicated, and it can be to do by hand.

However if you use FAVC or DVD Flick you can simply tick a box for Overscan and it will be done for you. You will get a DVD, ready to burn, complete with black borders to preserve your image.
