AVI to DVD with Nero7 problems

Hi I see that this has been mentioned before but I have yet to see a fix for it and I thought that people might be asking the wrong questions or not giving the full symptoms.

Movies are very jerky.

I use Nero 7 for converting AVI to DVD. Small files are fine (350 MB to 700MB) but when the file is over 1 gig, the problem starts and the movie is jerky. Nero 7 automatically changes the file size to fit on the DVD and I assume that it is this that causes the problem. I do not change anything I just let Nero do its thing.

If it is played from the Nero player, just before you burn it is also jerky.
Is there any fix for this.

System: Self build bit old now but still fast ish.
AMD XP2600+
2.07 ghZ,1.50 gb ram

No, the source file size shouldn't matter at all. It must be something else like a frame rate issue like NTSC to PAL, PAL to NTSC, 24fps to 29.967 without pulldown or a video/audio decoding issue because the file size just tells you that the clip is either longer or has higher video/audio bitrate.

Do the 350/700MB and 1GB avi files have the same video and audio codecs and frame rate? Post the details of your source files , identify with for example gspot.
Are you converting to PAL or NTSC?

Or try another all-in-one solution like FAVC or DVD Flick and see if you get same jerky playback.

Or why not get a cheap divx/xvid player or build your own HTPC!

Thanks for the quick reply. I will digest what you say , fiddle about a bit and report back later.

Yes the cheep player would be an option. BVut I really want to sort this one out.
