    Hello,

I am from Germany. Seems to be a real expert site here.So maybe someone knows the answer what is wrong:

If I burn DVD ( happens with all kind of DVD material such as alos recorded TV), the program begins to burn but stops suddenly after 2 % .
" Media is possibly bad". Nero test drive prints me different reports. Here is one of a failed DVD burning attempt ( media is not CSS protected)
Would be very kind, if someone here could tell me what might be wrong! Thanks in advance.

    From germany

First thing, edit your post and take out the serial number from Nero. Stupid that Nero still does this, but it does.

Second, process of elimination to determine the cause. The most likely causes, in no particular order, are

    1. Software
    2. Burner going bad
    3. Burner compatibility with media
    4 Something else

Start by using Imgburn to burn the results. Just let recode write to your HDD, then use Imgburn in build mode, select the video_ts folder, and burn a DVD.

If this fails, try a different brand of blank disc. The error message seems to usually be associated with media problems. If you have recently started buying a different brand or faster blanks, that may be the cause.

standalone, please do not double post. One post per subject is enough.

I would suspect a DVD media problem first myself. You can look up that media to the left in DVD Media: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia?dvdmediasearch=&dvdmediadvdridsearch=d21&type=11&siz...+or+List+Media Or look at: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/ for more info.

Other than that, I would go with guns1inger's recommendations.

    And welcome to our forums.

So I will contact my Hell distributor.

what is about the ASPI Driver by Nero, resp about to replace that aspi with another one - f.i. from adaptec...

I forgot to mention, that my burner is not an HD Burner or a blue ray one . Its just a normal, red light laser drive. I bought the whole set about 1year ago.
Some burning software like Nero provides HD support. So what is about if there is no adequate hardware?

In Germany, a journal recently published, they had tested different blancs from different brands and stated, that up to a half of the blancs simply dont work, due to production changes

In your test, almost only Philips ( i have never tried yet) had good burning results.
I could not find related topics here because the headers are not clear enough- f. I. " Burning problems".

So I will have to check them out again.
sorry that my English is not that perfect.

Thanks again- thats enough for the moment. However -as I am working quite a lot with video or docus,I think I will find some good information here

    Standalone,
Since your English is so good...I would try another burning program first just to be sure. ImgBurn (Image Burn) can easily do what you want since your disc is not copy protected...and it is free. It might even be available in "Deutsch" too.
Prassi Ones is also a VERY good program....es ist nicht kostenlos...but it has a 30 day free trial with full functions.

    Hello, again,

I was talking with the German Dell support, whether the burner probably could be gone bad. Of course Dell has good support and would even exchange the burner for free with the 2 years warranty.
I had before replaced the ASPI driver with same results

I made two burnings with another brand of blanc disc- the first one I used after installing the programs.

It worked again and I could make with that brand one data and one DVD disc that can be played in an external DVD player.

Other users reported ( with the same program- Nero7) to have succesfully used the brand ( Sony DVD+R) that does not work on my PC while they could not burn that ( German: Tevion- Memorex- same type) type that works on my PC.

As that brand or types that works on mine, was that first brand I used after recently formating my hard drive, I believe know that this all is a problem with any driver. ( ?)
The SONY discs seem to be okay- so the test I made with them with several programs like nero.

I contacted Sony Europe to ask what is going wrong and just got an immideate answer, I should send the blancs to an expert in Austria.

I just dont believe that something is wrong with the blanc disc themselves So it will need some mor time to find the solution. 8) Cheers!

Maybe too obvious a question... might even have been stated and I missed it -

But does the burner work at all for creating other discs? Can you make data DVDs, CDs of any kind, DVD videos converted from AVIs, etc? Have you tried other media, including any RWs you have around?

That would be the first step to seeing at least if it is a/ the burner, b/ the media...

    I use Pioneer DVD burners.

I had a 107D which after only about 13 months would read DVds but no longer write them. Was a burner problem. Due to failing laser or dirt or dust on the laser. Not sure but they are cheap so I threw it away and got another one 110D Pioneer.
I use Nero software. never have any problems with it. trying reinstalling Nero and burn more slowly at 4x
