I have a strange problem when re-encoding a high-bitrate MPEG1 capture to VCD specs in TMPGenc (audio capture is 224, layer II, the usual specs in both capture and reencode.) The audio, which was fine before re-encoding, makes crackle and popping noises, almost as though it were being played too loud and blowing out the speakers. But it was fine BEFORE going throught TMPGenc. This happens both when I use TooLame for external audio encoding or the internal TMPGenc encoder. I've managed to work around this problem by demuxing my source MPEG, demuxing my finished MPEG, and muxing the audio from the source with the video from the re-encode, but it would be nicer to know why this was happening and how to stop it.
