I have a divx file, and I want to add subtitles, without reconverting the whole movie. I brought in the file, and then I went options and loaded the subtitles. The preview looks fine. How do I make sure that I'm not changing the video file in any other way? in other words, all i want to do is add the subtitles on top of the video, i don't want to change it in any other way- no format, color, size, or any other changes.

since you're essentially pasting text atop the video, it's going to have to go through the regular encoding process, or you could just go the easy way out and softsub your video + subtitles within an mkv container. but anyways, so long as all the output parameters in ffmpegx match the original file, with the exception of the added in subtitles, you should be gold. just expect the filesize to jump a little bit upwards if you use the "Best" setting for the bitrate calculator, as adding in subs will add in filesize slightly.
