First off i'd like to say hello to everyone seeing as this is my first post on these forums. Anyways, i'm looking to play MKV with highest quality video. Which programs and codecs would be suitable for this?

    Thanks

MKV (Matroska) is a container, just like .avi and .mp4. What filters you need will depend on what is inside the MKV file. You can try a tool like MediaInfo to identify what is in the container. You could also use something like mkvextractgui to see what is inside.

You will also need to install the following: Haali Media Splitter

I've gotten Haali Media Splitter, ffdshow, CoreAVC, and Media Player Classic. Now how do I set Media Player Classic to use the CoreAVC codec?

    1: Install FFDShow
2: install CoreAVC (I recommend not installing the Haali Media Splitter that is included with this installer, but instead installing Haali seperately.)*
3: Install the Haali Media Splitter
4: In the ffdshow settings, disable H264/AVC decoding.

    5: Reboot (highly recommended)
6: Configure MPC (the following pictures show how I have mine configured).

7: Close/Restart MPC (not sure if this is necessary, but it can't hurt).

*I recommend installing Haali media splitter separate because Haali often releases new versions/bug fixes. Installing it separate makes uninstalling and installing a new version easier.
