  1. Hi,
I have been reading various posts on the forum on this topic, but I am yet undecided.

I am looking to Convert and burn Single AVI Files To DVD (4.7Gig). The length in which it takes isint an issue. I have tried cucusoft avi to dvd converter, ConvertXtoDvd, and TMPGEnc DVD Author, With cucusofts being the best video quality.

    Any Suggestions ?

Easy way use FAVC. Best way encode video using dedicated video encoder (like HCEnc), encode audio using dedicated audio encoder (like Aften), author using dedicated dvd authoring program (like guifordvdauthor).

FAVC just automates the functions of HC, Aften, and dvdauthor. Good quality and fairly easy to use. I prefer to use the programs seperately as I like to control every aspect of the process. The more you get into video you will too.

    Freebird,

Just interested to know how you're authoring using GUIforDVDAuthor? Are you just selecting "Keep Working files" and then using those in GfD? Or is there a setting not to author that I've missed?

I've been using FAVC for a few weeks now and am very impressed by it, except for 2 issues.
    - I have a couple of files that no matter what I do the AV won't stay in sync (not a constant skew either).
    - I prefer to create my menus in GUIforDVDAuthor, as it's much more flexible (as the author of FAVC freely admits, that's not it's main function)

    Wouldbe grateful for any advice.

Read his 1st and 3rd post carefully....FAVC easy way... already authored ,no need to use GFDVDA after using FAVC...

Sorry if what I wrote wasn't clear. Favc does the authoring for you. No there is no setting you've missed. If you want to author your own menus then I would suggest using the programs seperatly. You will get much more control over the process. Favc is great for quick and dirty avi to dvd but if you want a really polished looking dvd do it all yourself.

Here is some good reading material.

What kind of file gives the av/sync problems?

Doh! Obviously half-asleep when I read that.

Apologies for cluttering the forum, and thanks for putting me right.

Thanks Freebird. What you wrote was perfectly clear, I just didn't read it properly whilst at work.

I've become fairly proficient at GFD (converting standard avis with GUI4ffmpeg first), over the past year or 2. I used FAVC but prefer a bit more control over my menus, hence my half-way house solution of keeping the working files, then muxing using GFD with my customised menu. Using HCEnc and particularly Aften is new to me, so I used FAVC to make it all slightly simpler. Thanks for the links, I'm trying my best to pick it up.

The files I've been working on are type-1 DV avi file from a Sony camcorder. Most have worked, but 2 have caused problems.

I wish I could help but I know nothing about DV. Hopefully someone else will be able to help.
    Good luck.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the efforts to try to help.

Freebird, will try the exact method outlined in the very excellent guide you linked to and see what joy that brings.

    Thanks once again.
