I've gone through the forum and read many topics on the avi to dvd converters. I just bought a new computer and my nero vision 4 is not working as good with the new pc as it did with the old. It locks up when I'm trying to add the file and causes problems on my brand new pc. Some times it works and some times it doesn't. I've downloaded ConvertXtoDVD and is not satisfied with it. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed and it's easier for me to use Nero. I've also tried AVI2DVD and it' kinda slow and too much work for me. Anyone has a suggestion on another program that is simple to use and does not take up a lot of space on my hard drive?

Why are you not happy with ConvertXtoDVD ? For anything to DVD it is the most reliable tool around, especially if you are after speed.
If quality is your number one priority then I would suggest FAVC. A lot slower than ConvertXtoDVD, but if you have good quality source then the results are much better. If your source is 700MB downloads then it really doesn't matter much what you use.
If you like Nero that much, why not try to work out why it doesn't work ?Read my blog here.

I can't figure out why it locks up when I'm trying to add the avi files to encode and burn.

Nero isn't very versatile. The wrong combination of contents in an avi file can throw it. VBR MP3 can cause issues, for example. Check the application logs for the time that Nero locks to see if it is writing any errors there.
What don't you like about ConvertXtoDVD ? It is simple, easily as faster as Nero, converts more formats and does so more reliably.Read my blog here.

I'm not sure. It might be the trial version I downloaded. I had a hard time with the creation of the menu and I'm not sure how to preview what I am about to convert and burn before I actually do it. I'm just to stupid for it, I guess. I'm going to give Nero another try and then I'll probably try Convertxtodvd again but I'll read all the guides first.

ConvertXtoDVD's menus are it's weak point. They are basically simple text lists. The next version will improve upon this a lot from what I have seen. As for previewing . . . there is a preview window (View -> Preview if you can't see it), but all it will show you is the video you are going to encode - not sure what else you need to see.

Personal opinion is that it is Vista causing the problem with Nero. Make sure you downloaded the latest updates from the Nero website.
