on a G5 with 10.4.9 -- 1.8 Gz ... I used MacTheRipper to rip a commercial DVD for a video project as a full disk extraction ... in order to extract extra content ... not video files ... I need to access the photo gallery.

looking through the "Video TS folder" I can't find the photos (or a movie file of still frames) in the elements.

Did I use the wrong method for extracting? Is there a setting or option?

Does anyone know of a better mousetrap?

    thanks in advance!

Just use VLC to play the slide show on your Mac and do screen captures. Be certain to display at the actual resolution and not full screen. The images are probably 640x480 on the disc so your screen capture will be just as good.

I'm offering this tip because I presume you're not going to be making copies of copyrighted material for others.

    720 (or 704) x 480 for a NTSC disk.

Unless authored by Toast, the slideshow should have been
encoded within a .VOB file. DVDSP does this.
IF you find which .VOB, ( MPEGStreamclip is good for this)
then you can demux the .VOB back to a .m2v stream,
and with this stream, open it up in Quicktime Pro,
play to determine the slide change ( say every 15 frames)
and then use the Export-->Quicktime to Image Sequence
feature, and spit out your slides in the proper ratio,
as .tiffs or .jpeg, at the correct fps intervals.

You then have perfect stills to work from if you need them for another project, but as Fro said, beware copyright laws.

    thanks, folks!

the DVD was provided by the copyright holder for the purpose of accessing the gallery images --- I need the highest quality versions available, to use in another video project ... tiff, jpeg, etc.

I used MpegStreamclip and that's how I realized the photo gallery wasn't available. I opened the "Video-TS" folder in DVD PLayer to check and the gallery is there and navigable ... so i know its there in the folder somewhere. I went back to MacTheRipper and individually extracted EVERY title and demux-ed --- then viewed the m2vs created ----

I've looked at them all and none of them are the photo gallery ....

does that mean there isn't a VOB file with the images? is it possible to raise an invisible file?
I'm fairly new to this technology so any help and / or information is greatly appreciated!

    I'm trying VLC .... next.

    thanks !!
