Hi,
I captured some dv footage a while ago using generic firewire, then captured some different footage using Matrox RT2500, is it possible that there would be a difference with quality of capture using these different cards?

The "capture" is actually a file transfer, so there should be no difference in quality. Depending on the driver software, you might capture one in DV Type 1 format and the other in DV Type 2 and those are treated differently by editing programs. One format can be converted to the other with no loss of information.
