How to change regions on a DVD or TV?

Hi everyone. I love anime and I just borrowed a "Wolf's Rain" DVD off one of my friends. I think I need to change the regions on my TV/DVD to be able to play it though, as I live in Australia. So, I was wondering,
How do I do this?
What effects does it have on my normal TV/DVD viewing (I have Free to Air Satelite)?

It's the DVD player's region code that you need to change. Not all can be changed. Contact the manufacturer or there may be a hack code that you can type into your DVD player remote to get it to be region free so it will play DVDs from anywhere.

It won't have any effect on your tv.
