What versions of "ConvertXtoDVD" are people using ?? I've used Winavi & the only problem I have is you can't specify a size for the output file without if going over or under (most of the time over). So if I want to convert a TV series of say 12 episodes to a dvd, each episode being about 333mb each, Winavi's smallest MiniDvd file is 500 so have to convert 2 episodes into 1. That isn't that much of a problem , but would like to be able to convert each file individually.

With "ConvertXtoDVD" I've only used it once because the file come out the correct size, but the quality wasn't that great, will try again & give it another go.

Unfortunately the old free version just doesn't cut it any more. ConvertXtoDVD has had some many changes since then, including pulldown for 23.976 fps source, that there is no comparison between the two.

I do disks like that using:

    FitCD to make AVS scripts
Write a batch file for HCEnc to convert to MPEG2
BeSweet to extract audio and create AC3

    Author in GuiforDVDAuthor.

    All freeware.

Yeah, it takes a little time to get familiar with all this, but when you have it only takes a few minutes work to set it all up.

Better quality than ConvertX and I can spend hours on menu screens and filtering logos, etc, etc if I want to, though that's more for the fun of doing it (I realise not many would consider that fun) and not necessary just to watch the shows.

Just managed to get the newest version of "ConvertXtoDvd" but other software I've used lets you crop the videos, I've recorded VHS to DVD, and want to convert the dvd to avi, but need a decent program that actually crops. As far as I can see "ConvertXtoDvd" doesn't have this option

  7. ConvertXtoDVD does not convert dvd to avi. It converts all to DVD, not the other way around. If you want a programm that actually crops and converts to avi, use Gordian Knot.

ConvertXtoDVD encodes from avisynth scripts, so it doesn't need to do this itself. What sort of cropping do you need to do ?

And yes, as the name rather strongly implies, ConvertXtoDVD converts from multiple formats (X) to DVD

You are better off using AviSynth and HCenc for the video. For the audio you can use Aften or ffmpeggui (both do AC-3 audio encoding).

For DVD authoring there are MANY choices. I prefer TMPGEnc DVD Author but it is not freeware. All the above IS freeware.

There are some freeware DVD authoring programs.
