    If I want to to edit a movie... with sound on top of it, how do i go about doing it? What would I need for that and what kind of file would the movie have to be.

    For example... I have Shrek as an avi file... i want to change the music at the front of the video to something i like... how would i do that??

    one way: you would pull it into an editor, demux (separate) the sound from the video, cut out the audio you don't want and insert your new audio

    I would use an NLE like Vegas or premiere where you can see your audio on the time line, and add new audio to a separate timeline then mix the two together. If you demux and edit you run a very high risk of creating sync problems, where as in a good NLE you can see exactly where the audio is, mix the old and the new together, and not have to rick screwing the sync.
