    Hi,

    I have searched a lot to find the answer to this and tried different things but nothing is working.

    I have an AVI and I need to convert to .mov so I can edit it in FCP or iMovie.

    How do i do this? When I tried with some free apps the screen is just all white and the audio is distorted. What am I doing wrong?

    I have Quicktime pro if that helps. Let me know of any free or cheap programs that will solve this dilemma.

    Because iMovie and FCP are not recognizing the file!

    Hmmm, I smell a spam here. Quicktime pro should do what this person needs, but regardless of that why is it that we should All d/l This and why is it payware?

    I found the program on the apple website and had such a small clip that it did it for free.
    Maybe here is a better link: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/easywmv.html

    I pulled my hair out all night and it saved my life but don't download it if you do not have to.

    Can someone send me to where it says Quicktime pro plays and converts AVI files? Of course I would rather do that.

  8. In Quicktime pro:

    File->Open In New Player: filename.avi

    File->Export-Quicktime (from option menu): filename.mov

    Seems pretty painless and straight forward.

    Of course you should have on the system the codec required to open that particular flavor of .avi file

    perhaps knowing what type of avi file it was would help greatly

    I should probably also note that HD_Shooter is working on a Mac, because I'm getting the impression everyone's replies are geared more toward the PC (and EasyWMV is an OS X app, anyway).

    HD_Shooter: Have you tried ffmpegx? It's shareware, but you should still be able to try it (without the kind of limitation imposed by EasyWMV (the unregistered version limits how many seconds you can convert from the source video, for everyone else reading this)). Also, major (the developer) can be found in the ffmpegx forum here on VideoHelp.

    (Maybe this should be moved to the Mac forum?)

  11. Hi,

    If what you want is edit an AVI movie and save it again as AVI, then you can do it with SimpleMovieX.
    http://www.aeroquartet.com/SimpleMovieX/

    Note that I'm the author of this little app.

    If you want to convert to another format, then SimpleMovieX or QuickTime Pro can do it.

    Regards, BJ
