  1. I am doing a trial version of Ulead DVD Factory 6.0 and am having some problems. I have all these homemade movie clips I have pieced together, several different videos, slideshows(2) and 2 menus. I was working on a different(more powerful) PC before and have authored the same exact dvd i'm trying to author now. Except now i'm on a less powerful laptop and it crashes at about 22%. It has crashed twice. I'm trying to figure out why. Could it be possible that the laptop doesn't have the power it needs?

    1.86ghz cpu
    512mb ram
    25+Gig HDD

The PC I have successfully authored this with is also

    1.8ghz
    but...
    1GB RAM
    and lots more HDD

The total file size to be authored is 4.38GB which is just about 1/4 past the little yellow marker indicating fullness of DVDR. It should work fine, right? A standard DVD-R is 4.7GB...

Also, I am trying to create the DVD folders, not burn straight to disc. I usually create dvd folders then burn to DVD with Nero.

I have spent many many hours trying to perfect this little DVD and am needing it done by tomorrow as i'm leaving for vacation, it would be really disappointing to have wasted all of that time.

I would appreciate any sort of help you guys could give me...

    Thanks!

It's basically almost impossible to say why. Considering the almost infinite permutations (and possible conflicts) of hardware, software, codecs etc. Add to that, except for system specs, you've provided absolutely no information that would aid in troubleshooting.

Two things can casue problems (not in all cases, and I'm just guessing here).

any video assets that are DivX or xVid.

MP3 audio tracks (convert them to .wav 48khz before inserting into MF6).

    Regards,
    George

The maximum size of DVD+/-R disks is 4.37Mbytes (binary) -- see here:

    https://www.videohelp.com/dvd

Your project is too big for the disk.

Nero (among others) also shows the max size as 4.38GB.

Even if the OP's project was too big for a disc he's writing to his HD anyway.

Most likely cause , driver conflict , software side .
Trialware is more a risk , just as shareware can cause inappropriate errors , non-responsive programs , system crashs
    Uninstall any non-essential programs installed
Start with the one installed before the ulead trial product , and work back from there

Esspecially anything related to "codec packs"

Update video drivers for system first
Check video acceleration is set to max
    Try again after reboot

    ====

    25gig drive

Check normal os and programs space used ... add
Files used for project ... total equals freespace remaining for project
You might want to - 2gig to take into account swapfile , recycle bin system reserved space

If files are non-complaint , then file space will be required for temp storage of converted files to suitable format

If files are compliant already , there should be in settings , a feature "do not convert complaint files" , or something similar

Keep an eye on space used during these process's
It may be possible the issue is related to not enough freespace to complete project
