Extracting audio from a xvid avi movie

How can I extract just the audio in a mp3 or wav format from a movie xvid avi? help please

Simple way.
Open the file on Virtualdub. Go to File -> Save WAV.
Done.

I did open file with virtualdub but I had an error

Couldnt locate decompressor for format xvid(unknown) Virtualdub requires a video for windows (vfw) compatible codec to decompress video. Directshow codecs, such as those used by windows media player, are not suitable

Click on Tools (menu to your left), then go to the Codec section. You will find a suitable Xvid codec listed there.

thanks, I did extracted the audio file in wav format, now I can not opened it in wavelab and convert it to an mp3. How can i convert the wav file to mp3. I try to burned it with nero but it will not recognized the wav file for some reason. help

Use BeSplit or similar to remove the header since it is most likely an mp3 with a wav header.

You could also try VirtualDubMod, since 1) it doesn't require a video decoder to deal with audio and 2) it can demux audio rather than just save wav's.

You could also try VDub set to full processing to get a PCM wav.
