I have two avi's and I need to join them. I have downloaded virtualDub and become familiar with appending avi's and deleting extra footage.

Here's my problem, the last video I want to append has 85 extra frames in it and it doesn't land on a keyframe. I have chopped it up so I have just the one keyframe I need to edit and save in "full process mode", but I can't seem to create something that virtualDub will append.

    Below is the video info:

    Code:
    AVI Information
        Filename: QQQ - DVDRip.XviD.AC3.CD1[ThE1OnE].avi
        Filesize: 730273792 Bytes (696,44 MB)
        Streams (i.e. Video, Audio): 2
    Video Stream
        Compression: xvid - XVID MPEG-4
        Avg. Bitrate: 1255,55 kbit/s
        Resolution: 672x288
        Color Depth: 12 bits
        Running Time: 3410,62 s (56m 50s)
        Framerate: 23,9760 fps
        Microseconds Per Frame: 41708 ms
        Frames: 81773
        Keyframes: 982 (Every 83)
    Audio Stream
        Wave Type: 8192 - AC3 Audio
        Avg. Bitrate: 448,00 kbit/s
        Sample Rate: 48000 Hz
        Bit Depth: 0 Bits
        Channels: 6
        Audio Delay: 0,00 s
    1. What/where can I get the codec to encode the video myself(minus the 85 extra frames)?
    2. What settings should I use within the codec to match up with the original avi?

    Thanks for any info.

The latest betas of virtualdub support smart encoding, which will allow you to cut on non-I-frames, and re-encode only those frames required to complete or rebuild the GOP in which the edit occurs. AVIDemux offers a similar feature.

Cool, it worked. I just watched it though and were I have combined them there is a high pitched "squeak". Is this common?

Sometimes with AC3 audio, although I haven't seen it happen, it has been reported. What I sometimes see is the framerate at the join drop right down for a second, then come back. Audio goes out of sync just for that period, then comes back.
