  1. Hi,

    This is a very peculiar situation. I used DVD Rebuilder (with CCE SP v 2.70)on my machine a number of times.(though the last was about 6 months back). I tried using the same recently for backing up my movie.Everything seemed to go well. Phase 2 encoding started and completed about 98.3%. And one of the second last files (.vaf file) shows up as 100%. Unfortunately, it is remaining this way for the past 2 hours. The only option that I see on the screen is Abort(which I do not want to use becasue it took almost 12 hours for me to get to this position-old machine )

    Any idea what the issue could be(everything else on the computer is working normally). Anything to kick start this??

    Thanks in advance!!

    DVD-RB has been through a lot of changes in 6 months - have you upgraded to a more recent version ?

  3. Actually not. I am just using the same DVD RB(v 0.64) and CCE SP combo which I was using earlier on for backing up. Its just that I had not used this for almost 6 months or so.

    .vaf file is necessary in order to do multi-pass encodes with CCE.

    @bappida69

    If you abort, then restart, won't your version of DVDRB restart where you left off? I've aborted several times in the past, and since DVDRB encodes by cell, you shouldn't have to do the whole thing again, and just pick up where you left off.

    I aborted. Nothing was restarted. So I guess I am back to square one now. Since I don't know the issue, I am not sure if I want to start this all over again. Any ideas?

    Why not start over? you already have time invested...try using HCEnc...see if it completes the process.......should only take 2-3hrs....go for it!!!

    HCEnc runs at around 50 - 65% of the speed of CCE, so if CCE takes 12 hours, HCEnc will take substantially longer for the same number of passes.

    that said, if you are one of these 6 - 8 passes lunatics, then 12 hours is pretty good time.

    As I had mentioned before in my original post, I have an old machine(believe it or not 700 MhZ and 512 MB ram). Thats the reason it takes in excess of 12 hours for a CCE Encoding. And yes, I have only 2 passes set for CCE Encoding.

    But my basic problem remains unresolved--why is this happening. I never had this issue before.

    bappida69, how did you go about aborting then restarting again? I abort, close down dvdrb, then restart it again, and click on "encode"....I get this message:

    Clicking yes will resume from where I stopped.

    Older versions of DVD-RB had occasional problems with small or blank cells. I remember that these were still be addressed during the 0.9x releases, so 0.64 would definitely be susceptible. Because these issues were dependent on the disc structure itself, plus any re-authoring down to it, it is not unusual that you have not had this problem before.

    Upgrading to a more recent version would be the best first step to solving the why part of the problem.
