    ok guys i'm new to this so here is what i need to know. I have an avi file i want to convert to a smaller size here are my particulars:

    the avi file is 720mb.
    It is an embeded with subtitles AVI file.
    I used virtualdub to embed the subtitles.
    I used Media Subtitler to make the subtitles.

    I NOW just simply want to condense or make smaller the file without losing any sync in the subtitles or audio.

    What easy to use program do u suggest to make an Avi file into a Mpeg????

    That's most likely a Divx encoded file and has already been compressed quite a bit. Recopmpressing especially to MPEG will cause a huge hit in quality.
