Is there some "cheat-sheet" reference page you could link me to, that identifies and distinguishes between different burner models ? For example, Pioneer burners with model designation ___PB vs. ___XL. I know there are models specific to Macs, which have no Eject button, and that there are models whose # indicates retail box vs. bare OEM drive, but apart from that I don't have any good sense of this.

i don't know of any cheat sheets to tell you what brands are rebadged drives. your best bet would be to check out the firmware index and cdfreaks.com forum.
