  1. I am about to encode a DVD which has this particular problem:

    The source NTSC DVD is 100% progressive but at 29.97 fps with each field composed of a unique image. There are a lot of blends (ghosting).

    Here's a sample from the source DVD.

    What do I do? Encode it as it is at 29.970 fps? Or should I use the Srestore script to bring the frame rate down to 25 fps? If so, what is the script that I should be using?

    P.S: The movie in question is a 1985 one. So it must have shot on film (23.976 fps).

    I use MPC-HC and ffdshow. The video plays fine, hardly any ghosting visible. Converted it to mp4, downloadable here: http://www.embedupload.com/?d=7PACLHV0QG. Actually I've never come across progressive 29.97 fps NTSC.

  5. Tons of ghosting. SRestore() won't work with that. Someone used something like ConvertFPS() to convert a 25p source to 30p. I don't think there's anything you can do to reverse it.

  6. I've seen something like this before, where it wasn't a typical blend conversion, and master didee suggested restorefps which worked ok on it

    You have to fiddle with the phi values to determine the best results, but most of the blends are fixed , at least in this sample

    e.g.
    Code:
    MPEG2Source()
    RestoreFPS(25, 0.00)
    Spline36Resize(720,576)
    Or I don't know if you planning to go back to PAL DVD, you might want to resize it differently
