  1. What I like about Shrink is that it's able to quickly read a DVD so that I'm able to edit or choose the chapters I want to rip. Are there any other programs (free or pay) like this? It seems a lot of the programs force you to rip the entire movie first, which can take a bit of time.

(By the way, I'm looking for an alternative because I'm finding Shrink is unable to decrypt some of the newer movies.)

    Thanks for the help.

You could just use dvdfab decrypter (free) to rip dvd to pc, then still use shrink to edit the dvd

    or

Try Dvdfab platinum (pay version), it does have 30 day free trial, which has the customize option which allows you to rip only the selected files of your choice

    Thanks DD for the reply.

I have DVDFab Platinum, but it doesn't look like there is the flexibility of setting points in the middle of a chapter so I can rip that portion only and excise the rest. But, even more importantly, there isn't a preview screen for me to see what I'm trying to rip.

And I'm trying to avoid using Decrypter because I don't want to take the time of waiting for the entire movie to be ripped for only certain scenes.

Well... AnyDVD running in the background will allow you to do what
    you want on the fly...
but the app with a view... VideoRedo Plus should get it done.

Anydvd should work, allowing you to us shrink as you have been, but I myself have no experience with that program

There is no substitute to Shrink - fast, easy, works well at 70% or more = beyond DVD Rebuiler at less than 70%

Recode could - but ahead added to the Shrink formula and made it
    less than it could be.

The newer DVD2One can do it - without any difference.

  8. Thanks, everyone, for the replies.

I never thought about trying AnyDVD with Shrink. I'll try that and see what happens. Also I thought DVD2One was a straight ripping/compression program -- didn't know you could edit chapters at the same time. I'll check that out as well as VideoRedo.

I really appreciate all the help!
