Backup my programs

I have a program that i do not have the install cd for. I need to format my windows, but doing so will erase everything. I wanted to know if there is a program (better if it is freeware) that i can download and use to backup the software from the computer and then restore it back to the PC after i have reinstalled windows.

Depends on how "complex" the program is. If it is a "simple" structure and only installs all files to the one directory then it's a piece of cake. If it installs certain files in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory and/or makes registry changes, then it's a whole different kettle of fish.

I wouldn't have thought it would be too hard to contact the software providers and request a new install CD though.

Would you mind saying which program it is? You may be able to get specific instructions from other people with it.

There are a number of things you may need to do. If the program has an uninstaller (i.e., shows up in Add/Remove Programs), then all of the information about what was installed will be somewhere in the registry. Also, there may be an existing copy of the installer on your system (though not with an obvious name).

the program is my quick Pro, which is a sign in program that i use in my office, this program used to run on a windows 98 computer. i just want to know is there a program out there that can backup the program for me?

I dont think you can do that. The backup program would have to create an installer. There are some programs that would copy it to a new hd if you put one in. They probably cost a lot more than that program does today.
