    Hello,
I need some urgent help on burning DVD.
All my video files are in .rm I like their size best. Anyways that is not the point.
I have done several things, but I could never get a working one.

Here is what I have done:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First I convert .rm file to .vob file using SUPER. With its default settings which are:
    Output Container: vob DVD Compliant
    Output Video Codec: MPEG-II2
    Output Audio Codec: AC3
Then the rest at all default settings, I believe it is like this:
    720:576, 25 Frames/sec, 5712 Bitrate kbps
48000 Sampling Freq, Channels 2, Bitrate kbps 384

Then, I use IFOedit, I put the .vob file in, and click on Create IFO, then I select the first line, and click on 'GET VTS Sectors'

Now, I create 2 folders, 1 AUDIO_TS nothing in there. Then VIDEO_TS with those .vob, and the 4 or so files created from IFOedit.

Now I use Nero Burning ROM, I used the DVD Video option, which it gives AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS in the default, so I just drag those files in my VIDEO_TS into the VIDEO_TS from NERO.

So now my ready to burn list is like:
    DVD NAME
    - AUDIO_TS (nothing in there)
    - VIDEO_TS (with all the .vob, .ifo files)

Then click Burn. The burn speed is surely amazing as it took less than a few minutes. Even though converting part took a while. Anyways, now the final product plays just fine on the computer (the resolution size is kinda mess up, even though I tried 3:2 ones with 352 x 240 as well anyway). When it plays on the TV, the frames stop every other second, it won't play smoothly at all. Also, it can't be fast forward at all.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Other method:
    With .FLV file.
First I download the .flv file from Youtube.
Then, I convert and burn the file using ConvertXtoDVD.
This is the only successful case, it plays fine on the DVD Player.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, I try the same thing as what I have done using .flv file. Instead of .flv I use .rm file directory. I put in 4 videos, converting took 3 hours. After the convert and burn, when I put it on my DVD Player, I get "No Disc" error.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    So my problems are:

Why it works with .flv file using ConvertXtoDVD, but does not work with .rm file?

Why the .rm size gets converted by ConvertXtoDVD is like 1GB per video, while using SUPER, it is only 200MB per video?

Is there something that I didn't do or missed that caused the dvd to be unplayable on my DVD player?

Is there any way to convert rm properly and still works on my DVD player?

Thank you for your time, please help =/
    Thanks in advance.
I apologize for the long post.

720:576, 25 Frames/sec? Then that's a PAL video and are you converting it to NTSC? Framerate conversions can cause problems with playback. If you left the video in PAL format, you would need a DVD player that can handle PAL.

There are lots of types of .rm files. Even without the PAL framerate, there may be other problems.

The difference in the converted filesizes is likely because the programs used different bitrates for encoding.

    And welcome to our forums.

Top left corner of this page : What is DVD. This will explain what is compliant for DVD authoring.

I would also try a better method for authoring. Instead of having SUPER create VOBs, have it output mpeg files, then use GUIForDVDAuthor or DVDAuthorGUI to create the DVD structure.

720:480, 29.97 Frames/sec is regular NTSC DVD specification. Or look to the upper left on this page for 'WHAT IS' DVD for all the DVD specifications and formats. ConvertX is probably setting them correctly, but SUPER will probably just keep them the same as the source, unless you select different.

Unfortunately, converting PAL to NTSC can cause stuttering video problems and some sync problems and I don't know how well SUPER handles it. ConvertX usually does better. You could always try doing a two step conversion if you are using these two tools. Convert the .rm to a low loss format, such as HuffyUV, keeping the PAL specifications, then use ConvertX to do the PAL to NTSC>DVD part of the conversion. But, try it both ways and see how it turns out.

what is the res of the source file ?

keep the 25 fps, convert to 320*240 mpg OR 720*480 mpeg2

now run a second time, go to menu and choose AC3 audio only
    set sampling at 48000

this will give the audio stream as a seperate file in DVD compliant

change the framerate by using dgpulldown or dgindex to create an NSTC m2v elemetry stream ( 25fps to 29.97 fps )
now author with muxman or gui4dvdauthor

or you can drop your mpeg2 into convertX to get dvd files

  7. Super is based on ffmpeg. FFmpeg has notorious problems with RM's. It works just fine for older but not the latest. You should use a converter that uses the windows directx codecs. I used a trial of one called rm to all or rm to everything or something like that. Anything that uses the windows codecs will do and install the latest real player basic.

SUPER can also use mencoder and DirectShow filters, though. I think you'd need to have RealPlayer/Alternative or the Helix codecs installed for the latter, but I'm not sure. For mencoder, I'm not sure if it'd work with the mplayer/mencoder Real support files installed (if SUPER would acknowledge them).
