what dvd-writer can i burn dvd's that are playable on ps2

I'm plannig to buy a dvdwriter,
i have a sony playstation 2 so i want to know witch writer is the best for burning
ps2 compatible dvd's
note that i also want to make photo presentations.

My experience with the PS2 and DVD-R is one of frustration to be honest as the PS2 seems to be very picky about the quality of DVD-R used.

I have found that branded Pioneer or TDK discs are fine but bulk unbranded discs are weird. Sometimes they play fine, but press play again once finished, say to watch the movie again, and the player doesn't read the disc. It also seems to work better with your PS2 flat rather than upright in it's stand.

One thing you MUST bear in mind, the PS2 cannot read MPEG Layer II audio. Unfortunately this is what all budget DVD authoring packages encode the audio to with the exception of MyDVD. If you can afford to spend a a lot more money then go for a semi professional DVD authoring package that encodes to Dolby Digital. I believe DVDit does so if you select it from the menu but as I don't own DVDit I can't be sure. While i'm on that subject, does anyone know of a decent and reasonably priced app I can use to encode audio from mpa/mp2 or wav files to dolby digital stereo?.

As for what writer well the PS2 has read both DVD-R and DVD-RW branded discs quite happily (subject to my commenst above) so the Pioneer A03 DVD writer is fine. I don't know if it can read DVD+RW though but I'm sure someone here can advise.
