  1. When I created a dvd movie from an avi file, the audio track was terrible, with hisses and cracks. How could I demux the audio track from the avi file, which is fine, and apply it to the VOB's?

I have VirtualDubMod but I wouldn't know how to use it in this case.

If your file is a AVI type, it may have MP3 audio, which is unacceptable for DVDs. I use VirtualDub Mod to save out the audio as a WAV format file. Load the video then go to 'Streams>Stream list. Right click on the audio track and select 'Full processing mode'. Then click 'Save WAV'. After the audio is saved, you can close VDM.

From there, if you need to do some audio filtering, you could load the WAV into Audacity and see if you can clean it up. Then save it out as a WAV again. I use ffmpeggui at that point to convert the WAV to AC3. Then all you have to do is mux it back with your MPEG-2 video, author and burn.

VDM, Audacity and ffmpeggui are all freeware programs and work very well. Lots of guides for VirtualDub, and Audacity works just like a word processor, so it's not hard to learn. ffmpeggui is pretty much automatic, just use the defaults.

If the audio is fine in the avi then you can make a new audio track direct from the avi with ffmpeggui, then you need to re-author your dvd with the new audio source. I'd use TDA for authoring, "add dvd video" for the video source then select the ac3 file for the audio.

  4. Please ignore the question which started this thread. I mixed up 2 different cases.

However, I'll try ffmpegGUI which I've never used before because I am interested in the principle of this process.

    Thanks for your help.
