I have the basic version of Ulead Movie Factory, version 6.00.0004.0. I'm wondering if I can apply effects on text added via the edit room text tab - flying in, fading in and out and so on. Windows Movie Maker allows this but I can't figure out how to do it with Movie Factory.

Any help or guidance or alternate suggestions would be very much appreciated, thanks very much in advance.

Moviefactory is geared towards Authoring, with a little functionality for Editing (although version 6 has the most editing features than any previous versions of MovieFactory to date).

You might want to look at Ulead's VideoStudio 10 Plus -- it is geared towards Editing, with basic Authoring functionality (similar to MovieFactory Authoring, but less templates and less features). Download the TRIAL -- there's talk that a new version 11 is due out soon...

That said, I'm not sure you can easily apply animations to the text in the EDIT Room. However, try applying one of the THEMES to your video, then go into TIMELINE mode, and edit the resulting text -- some of those have animations. I'm away from my editing machine at the moment, so cannot guarantee this will work -- but I think I tried it about a month ago...

    Regards,
    George

    Thanks George.

I'm getting a little disappointed with my purchase. It seems that the only real thing Movie Factory can do better than the free Windows Movie Maker is set things up with chapters and a table of contents. I also found last night that still pictures can't be combined in a movie - in WMM, I could add a still and have fading or other effects associated with it.

Between the two of them, I have all the features I want...

If I can't achieve what i was hoping for with the text using your suggested approach, I'll have to figure out how to export a good quality format from WMM so that I can use it effectively in UMF.

    Thanks again, George.

For best quality, save in WMM as DV-AVI, then import that into Ulead DVD MovieFactory.

Thanks p_I. Just tried that at work here - it's pretty easy to do. When I get back to work on my video adventures tonight, I'll use this method to combine the best ("best" as from the persepctive of my limited experience) of the two platforms.
