I joined together two 2gb xvid .avi video files to make one big one to burn to a dvd so i wouldn't get a 10 second pause in the middle of a movie on my setop box. I used virtualdubMOD 1.5.10 to append the 2nd file to the first and then just "SAVE AS" to a new file.

THE PROBLEM: Now i can't use the "go to" (jump to) function on my set top box, if i type in 35mins and press enter to jump to that part nothing happens. If i fast forward thru the movie, when i get there the audio is out of synch, if i let the movie play and then have to pause it, the audio is out of synch when i resume playback.

Even on my pc, if i seek thru the movie using a scroll bar, or the "skip 10 minute" shortcut the audio gets out of sink. But it seems the audio stays in synch if the movie just plays thru on it's own non stop.

Did i mess something up when joining the files? I deleted the original files so i can't go back to square one unless i rip and recompress from the source again which i'd like to avoid doing.

One thing i find odd is when i open the new 4gb xvid .avi file in virtual dub i get:
    WARNING: NOTHING TO OUTPUT
    BFRAME DECODER LAG
until i go ahead to frame 1

    HELP, this is extremely annoying!

If you ripped and re-encoded you could encode a single file this time and avoid the need to join.

Try demuxing the audio, then putting it back.

That can be 'fixed' by deleting that first frame. Otherwise you will see it flashing on the screen each time you play the video. See here for more info: https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=1643305#1643305

Well i have 4 of these, each several hours so that's why i'm trying to avoid ripping and re-encoding cause it would take a while.

I'll give these a try. Thanks!

still no dice, i've cut up the movie a couple of times but keep getting the bframe lag message, but i am using direct stream copy though cause i don't want to touch the quality. demuxing the audio didn't seem to do anything

still don't get why this one set of files is doing this, i've never had this problem before joining files...

here's the specs for the file, maybe cause it's not using packed bitstream??
