This has me baffled. I'm using Scenalizerlive 4.0 to transfer video to my hdd with a Canopus ADVC 110. I've done this many many times. Recently I reinstalled xp, then installed Scenalizerlive, dv codecs, also installed Virtualdub 1.6 and Vegas Moviestudio trial to test it out.

The problem: when I preview video in Scenalizerlive, the preview window is very dark. In the video "filmstrip" on the right, the video appears to be much brighter like it should be. If i play back the video in Scenalizerlive, it's still dark. If I open the video in Vdub, it's fine. Scenalizerlive did not do this before the reinstall of xp. I'm having a similar issue in Movie studio as well. The preview window of the capture module is fine until I start to actually do the capture, then it goes darker.

My computer specs are in my computer profile.

I installed Scenalizer before installing any codecs. The dark preview window problem was there. I then installed Cedocida DV Codec and the problem remains even after a reboot.

  4. My guess would be that the preview window is using the video card's hardware acceleration and overlay.

Try turning off video hardware acceleration:

    Right click on the desktop
    Select Properties
    Select Settings tab
    Click Advanced button
    Select Troubleshoot tab
Drag the Hardware Acceleration slider to "Disable all DirectDraw and Direct3D accelerations, as well as....."
    Click OK
    Click OK

If this helps, then you need to adjust the video overlay settings for your graphics card. (Typically, you can adjust things like brightness, contrast, color etc of the overlay independently of the rest of the display).

I fooled around in Nvidia's Television and Video settings, clicked on restore defaults, and that seemed to fix things. I don't know how they got messed up in there, because I never changed anything. Seems to be fixed now.
