My trial of Nero 7 expired today. Any recommendations for a free replacement to write DVDs with? I'd rather not have to spend $60 on Nero just to make backups of my DVDs. Thanks.

Edit: I just read about ImgBurn. Any others?

  2. You can't do any better than IMGBurn for DVD-Video, free or otherwise. For data discs, you could try CDBurnerXPpro, it's not bad at all. It's my understanding that you also can use something like Folder2ISO for data projects, then burn with IMGBurn.

    Good luck.

Imgburn works fine for data disks too, ISO not required with version 2. I use it for all of my DVD burner needs.

I would like to try the ImgBurn. I saw “Please select a file.” Can I select to “Copy a disc?” I want to copy a disc instead of some files in the disc.

If you have 2 dvd drives you could an unprotected disc, otherwise you would have to write to the HDD first then back to a blank.
And if you only have one dvd drive you may as well just rip an image with DVD Decrypter first, or you could even write an image to your HDD first with ImgBurn, once again an unprotected disc.

    Check http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=nero+6+oem+suite&hl=en&lmode=online&sa=N&start=0
to find Nero 6 OEM Suite for as little as $3, and then download latest Nero updates from Nero site. That's not free, but Nero has more features than many freebies.

The new version 2.2 (yesterday) has a "Read" mode.

That can read a whole disc to an ISO file; then you can Write that back to a new disc.

Does ImgBurn have features like erase disc, image recorder and others like Nero has?

  12. erase disc - yes
image recorder - yes (I assume it is to create disc images on the HDD)
others - everything that burning software should have (only maybe compiling audio CD is not included)

Hey guys for a beginner like me what does the new read mode in imgburn do, does that mean you can now eliminate dvdshrink if burning to single layer or does the read mode simply mean that you can rip to hard drive with imgburn in read mode and write the full disc to blank dual layer disc with imgburn. Please explain for a newbie. Thank you for your reply.
    Thank You,
