    Ok. I have a DVD with music videos on it. I am trying to get one specific song and turn it into any kind of stand alone audio file on the computer.

    I used OSex to rip the specific chapter and turn it into elementary streams. The streams get created, one an m2v for mpeg-2, which plays fine on the computer, but the other one, the audio file (i don't know if its PCM or AC3) does not play nor convert in ANY program i have tried thus far.

    I do this easily with other DVDs but this DVD has got me stumped. Any suggestions?

    0SEx gives each stream a nice descriptive suffix, so what are your filename extensions?
    TITLE01-ANGLE1-VIDEO1.M2V <-- MPEG-2 video
    TITLE01-ANGLE1-AUDIO1.AC3 <-- AC3 audio
    TITLE01-ANGLE1-AUDIO2.PCM <-- PCM audio
    TITLE01-ANGLE1-AUDIO3.DTS <-- DTS audio

    Re-rip a Title Set from the DVD with MTR.
    Play the ripped TitleSet in VLC.
    Check the information on the file playing in VLC.
    What does it say for Stream 0 and Stream 1?

    Get Wiretap and save the file uncompressed 48kbs stereo while you play that section of the dvd. Use Audacity to edit the beginning and end if you need to crop. You can export to mp3 from Audacity if you wish.

    The Wiretap Pro that is now offered can be used for free, if you don't buy it some features are disabled. I got version 1.0.0 which was freeware. Ambrosia has stopped offering that version, which only worked with G3's and G4's.

    Wiretap and Audacity are good combos to grab audio;
    another set would be Audio Hijack ( Non Pro or Pro) and Amadeus II;
    (search the forum for numerous posts I have done using these apps).

  6. After you've demuxed to video and audio files, a PCM audio file can be converted with this:

    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/25529

    which is a program called AIFF from PCM.

    And an AC3 file can be coverted to WAV using a program called More Missing Tools found here

    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11848

    The WAV file can be converted to AIFF by several audio programs, or simply left as it is for re-muxing or burning to disc.

    The Missing suite of programs for video/audio manipulation should be in everyone's kitbag.

    Hope this will help, Michael

    PCM audio is a problem in OS X. I've had commercial dvds that had no audio in sections because they were PCM. I use VLC and deleted the OS X dvd player because my drives are region free.

    There is a beta freeware converter here:

    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/25529

    that aims to fix that.
