    For compression, I've used SUPER software to convert DVD to DivX which happens to be an AVI file. However, when I play on Cyberlink DVD Power Player or InterVideo WinDVD, I can no longer fast forward as I can with MPEG or VOB files.

    Is there a software video player that allows this or is it a restriction of AVI files? Alternatively, is it possible to create DivX MPEG files?

    Try using AutoGK to convert DVD to Divx/avi. The quality will be much higher. Will it solve your problem ? Don't know. I've never seen a player do fast forward properly for most formats anyway.
