There is a lot of "used" software on Craigslist that I would be interested in. Adobe Premiere 1.5 is going for $100 or less, I saw Premiere Pro 2 for $100, but I have a hard time believing that would be legit.
Say I buy a copy of Premiere from somebody. If it's registered to that person, would I be able to transfer it to me(so I might upgrade later)? Is it legal? Anybody know how this would work? I know about warez and academic software, I don't want illegal software.
I have Premiere 6.0, I would really like something better, can't afford an $800 new version right now, but I don't want to be part of an FBI sting either.
    Any advice or insight here?

edit: Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 for $200, the guy says he was an intern at Adobe so the software is registered to Adobe as employee software, never been activated.

I'm betting it's warez for the most part. Maybe not. Who knows. It's a risk you'll take buying used from anonymous online sources.

I know the deal with bootleg software and warez and I don't want to go there, but the temptation to get something better than the Premiere 6.0 I have makes me willing to stick my neck out a little.
There are plenty Premiere 7.0 and Pro 1.5 for sale for less than $100, those versions aren't that hot, the people selling them might have upgraded and just want to get something back. I called Adobe, of course they aren't too happy to have people selling their software at a discount. I told the potential seller that I would show up with the cash, but I would call Adobe to check out the serial number and ask him to transfer ownership. If he does that, I'll buy it and be happy to have it, otherwise, it's a no-go. The thing about this Craigslist deal is that if I do buy it, it will be a face-to-face deal. If he rips me off, I know where he lives.

Not all software licenses do allow transfer of ownership. Autodesk (formally Discreet) don't allow transfer for most of their products. I am surprised this restriction isn't more common.

I'm not a lawyer but I believe offering a completely legitimate product no matter what the price would fall under entrapment. Having said that there must be something up for that price, either stolen, limited version,...

The guy says he was an intern at Adobe so the software is registered to Adobe as employee software, never been activated.
After a couple emails, he claims that this "employee" software is not able to be transfered via the Adobe owner transfer process, only activated via email. Sounds a little too sketchy for me, I'll have to pass on this deal. If he won't agree to let me call Adobe's 800 number to check the serial number before I hand him cash money, there's something going on.
Oh well, Premiere 6.0, I'm back.
